On Sunday (Nov 10th) Pastor Gaby started us with a new sermon series titled “Perishing in the Promised Land”!
Our first sermon is titled is “Live by the Word”!
We think of perishing as only possible in the “desert” or in “Egypt”, but it is possible for us to perish in the promised land. You can be exactly where God wants you to be, a land flowing with milk and honey, and still perish – Joshua 23:16; 24:13.
To perish means to disintegrate, to rot, to crumble, to die. God’s will for us is not to perish but to flourish in the promised land – Psalm 92:12-14. They only way to flourish is to live by God’s word( Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Joshua 1:8 and 22:5).
Jesus said that man should not live on bread alone, but on every WORD that comes from the mouth of God.
God is always speaking. What is saying to you today? Get into His Word. There is healing, deliverance, hope, freedom in His Word. The Word of God is the mind of God, it is His counsel and His total purpose. The Word of God is summed up in one Man and His name is Jesus!
We are called to be disciples of Jesus as we abide by His word. (John 8:31-32).
God’s Word is a seed. Scripture says that we are born of imperishable seed which has the power to transform the heart of a man (1 Peter 1:23).
God’s Word is a weapon (Ephesians 6:17). The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit that we use in battle. The Psalmist says that he has lifted his Word above his name.
God’s Word is a solid rock. If we build our lives on the foundation of God’s Word, we will be firmly established. Like the foolish builder in the bible, we need to be careful not to build on sinking sand but on the solid foundation word of God.
