The Holy Spirit Pt 5 – Freedom In The Holy Spirit

Last Sunday, ‘Freedom in the Holy Spirit’ was the title of the sermon in our series on the Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:17 tells us “where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom”. Where the move of God is by the person of the Holy Spirit, we can live in freedom from slavery. The world portrays freedom as the ability to do anything that pleases one, but that is indeed chaos! True freedom can only be found within the confines of God’s standard; God’s word. Freedom in Christ means that we are secure within the boundaries of God’s word when we walk in obedience to His word.

Many of us believers have the Spirit of freedom living inside of us but are not living in the freedom of the Spirit.

3 truths that are crucial if we want to live in freedom:

  1. Living in the freedom of the Spirit is God’s will for your life: Galatians 5:13 says we have been called to be free; Galatians 5:1 says it is for freedom we have been set free. It is never the will of God for us to live in bondage or slavery to anything but the Holy Spirit. There will be many challenges in this life but it is God’s will for us to live in freedom even in the face of such challenges. In Psalm 118:5, the psalmist said, “when hard pressed, I cried to the Lord; He brought me into a spacious place”.
  2. Freedom comes from the truth of God’s Word – John 8:32 says we will know the truth and the truth will make us free. When we recognise God’s word as truth, it becomes more real than than our circumstances. The word of God is Spirit and life (John 6:63) and it has the power to set us free and cause us to live in liberty.
  3. Freedom from sin is your portion – Acts 13:39 says ” through Him, everyone who believes is set free from every sin”. Jesus bought our freedom from sin and now by the Holy Spirit we can enjoy freedom from sin. It is our portion to live free from the control of sin. Don’t allow the enemy to deceive you into thinking you can’t break free from sinful habits. Freedom is your food as God’s children.

Seek to be free in every area of your life because it is God’s will for you!!
