Abundant Harvest Pt 5 – The Lord Of The Harvest

It is the portion of those who have a growing and thriving relationship with Jesus to experience harvest on a daily basis. When God declares this year the year of Abundant Harvest, it means the harvest is going to be out of the norm; one that will defy our expectations.

There is no harvest without God! God wants us to have a great expectation of the harvest while keeping our focus on Him.

Three truths that help us have the right perspective in this year of abundant harvest are:

  1. God is the focus – Jesus tells the disciples to “ask the Lord of the harvest…” (Matthew 9:38). It is God who prepares the harvest and equips us to receive it, therefore we are to keep our eyes & focus on Him. When we lose sight of God, we enthrone the harvest and not the Lord of the harvest. Our meditation on the Lord and His Word – not on the harvest – causes the harvest to come.

2.He makes things grow – Neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who makes things grow (1 Corinthians 3:7). We have all sown seeds (of prayer, encouragement, love, the Word, finances, etc) for which we are excited to see the harvest. Seeds are important to begin the process of growth. However, even though we have planted and watered and waited, it is only the power of God that makes the seeds to grow and make the harvest possible. We must boast that we know and understand the Lord (Jeremiah 9:23).

  1. He is our Provider – In this season of abundant harvest, it is essential that we ultimately see God as our Provider and Source. Our jobs, connections and contracts are simply resources but God is the only Source of our provision. When we sow seeds in different areas of our lives, it is the rain of the Holy Spirit that enables the seed to root, germinate, grow and bring a harvest. He does this so that we are able to have our needs met (grain), we can have pleasure (new wine), and we can be blessed and glorify God (oil for fat) (Deuteronomy 11:14-15). It is the heart of God that we prosper even as our soul prospers (3 John 1:2).

May we seek to know and understand that God alone is the Lord of the Harvest!
