Abundant Harvest Pt 8 – The Harvest Is Plentiful

As we bring our desires to the Lord, we have to be careful that we are seeking the God’s heart. The gospel of Jesus Christ is not about our purpose but about God’s divine purpose for our lives in His Kingdom.

True success in the kingdom is fulfilling God’s purpose.

Saul (now Paul) encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:5-6). God sends Ananias to tell Paul his purpose; that he was sent to the Gentiles and would suffer for the name of Jesus (Acts 9:15-16).

We are called to suffer for the name of Jesus, for the purpose of God’s purpose – to seek & save the lost!! The heart of God is for lost souls – those who are separated from God (Luke 15).

God is not slow in keeping His promises but He is patient, giving everyone an opportunity to come to Christ (2 Peter 3:9). God desires that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4).

Jesus was moved with compassion as he saw how lost the people were (Matthew 9:35-38). Lost souls are in abundance and are ripe for us to harvest. Are we ready to say “send me” to the Lord when He asks, “who can I send?” (Isaiah 6:8)?

What keeps us from reaching out to the lost?

  1. Lack of compassion – We have forgotten that we were once separated from God (Ephesians 2:11-12). Like Paul, let us pray for a heart of compassion for the lost in this world and put away all selfishness (Romans 9:3).
  2. We don’t understand God’s grace – Anything God has done in our lives (salvation, healing, etc) is not because of our works or goodness but by grace (unmerited favour). God is telling us freely we have received, freely we must also give & extend grace to the lost (Matthew 10:8).
  3. Lack of urgency – When God tells us to reach out to the lost, we must see it as an urgent matter & stop making excuses. Life is not in our hands. It is God who gives life and takes it away so we must obey Him because we don’t know tomorrow. We must step out and reach out even if we are uncomfortable because now is the time for salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2)!

The harvest is plentiful… are you ready to go out to the harvest field? Pray and ask the Lord!
