It Is More Blessed To Give Pt 1 – The Grace Of Giving

The world believes that we are blessed when we keep but Scripture says it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).

There was revival in the early church; a mighty move of the Holy Spirit that caused them to move in the supernatural. The disciples devoted themselves to the word of God, fellowship, communion and prayer. They sold their possessions and gave to everyone who had need and God increased their number (Acts 2:42-47). No one claimed that their possessions were their own but they shared everything they had (Acts 4:32). Though there was suffering and poverty, there was not one needy person in the church, because they understood the grace of giving & excelled in it (2 Corinthians 8:1-2,7).

God is calling us to give. God is a Giver; it’s His nature. God gave the most important Thing – His only Son (John 3:16). If we have a genuine relationship with God we will become excellent givers like He is.

Give and it will be given to you (Luke 6:38). Freely we have received the gift of giving, freely we must also give and be a blessing (Romans 12:6-8).

We must allow the Spirit of God to change us and make us excel in giving as per His character.

What is God calling us to give as a church:

  1. Our time and talents – God has deposited gifts in us to bless and build up the body of Christ. They are not for us to keep (Ephesians 4:4-16). It may be uncomfortable and inconvenient but we are called to give our time to bless the church and help it grow.
  2. Finances – It is a touchy subject because people are so consumed with their money. When we give cheerfully unto the Lord, we enable the kingdom to progress (2 Corinthians 9:7). 1 Corinthians 16:2 encourages us to set money aside for the kingdom of God.
  3. Love – Love is what nailed Jesus to the cross. He loved everyone he met. God calls us to love Him and to love others (John 13:34). Any act of giving stems from love (1 Corinthians 13:3).

Let us seek to know God as a Giver so that like Him, we will become givers in every area of our lives to be a blessing to those around us!
