Spiritual Warfare Pt 3 – Tearing Down Strongholds

A stronghold is anything that controls you and has power over your life. Demonic strongholds are built from the enemy’s lies that we have believed as truth. The enemy should have no stronghold in our lives; God alone should be our Stronghold (Psalm 18:2).

God sows good seed but the enemy sows weeds. The Lord said that the weeds should be left until the day of harvest so that they can be uprooted (Matthew 13:24-30). The Lord is pulling down strongholds in this year of abundant harvest!

Goliath was a stronghold who taunted the Israelites but David knew his identity in Christ, rose up and faced him until he came down. God commands us to be strong & courageous (Joshua 1:9) to destroy places on high mountains and break down altars (Deuteronomy 12:2-3) for our weapons are not carnal but mighty for the pulling down of strongholds.

Jesus came to set the captives free! He cast out every demon that had a hold on the people He encountered.

As followers of Jesus, God wants & has empowered us to live in victory over the power & control of the enemy. He calls us to confront the enemy and cast him out in Jesus’ name (Mark 16:17) for we have all authority in heaven and on earth like Christ (Matthew 28:18).

How to face your enemies and pull down strongholds:

  1. Know your identity in Christ – The enemy challenges our identity like he challenged Jesus’ identity in the wilderness. Ask the Lord to reveal to you who you are in Christ so that you will function in the authority God has given you and walk in victory over the enemy. We are seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6).
  2. Take out your sword (God’s Word) – The full armour of God – our weapon/sword that we use in battle against the enemy (Ephesians 6) – is wrapped up in God’s powerful Word, and we must use it to cut off the head of our enemies (1 Samuel 17:51). The word is in our mouths to uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant (Jeremiah 1:9-10).
  3. Intercession – The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective (James 5:16). When we come together as a body to pray, power to overcome the enemy is released and strongholds are broken. Then we will walk in victory.
