I Must Be About My Father’s Business

Society has conditioned us for competition. For example, in the game musical chairs the players have to compete to sit on the available chairs when the music stops. This world strives for self interest and a competitive nature while in God’s kingdom, there is a higher way, the way of cooperation/teamwork.

(Luke 2:41-50) From His youth, Jesus gave due priority to being about His Father’s business. Being about the Father’s business is not about doing religious activities, but being about the valuable things that God has assigned to us. God teaches us how to invest in God’s Kingdom, things of eternity (Matthew 6:19-20). The devil wants to kill, steal & destroy what is valuable to us so that it doesn’t give profit in eternity.

When you are about your Father’s business, what grieves God, grieves you (Ezekiel 9:4). What you don’t use for the Kingdom of light, Satan is waiting to use for his advantage. We will have to give a full account of everything to God (Romans 14:12). Put God’s interest, not yours, at the centre of your decision-making. If God asks us to give to Him what is most valuable, will we gladly do so?

Valuable things to invest into God’s Kingdom:

  1. Time (Psalm 90:10-12)
Time is like currency. Each day spent will never return, it is spent for good. God deserves our full attention & effort for He is a Rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Be deliberate on how you prioritize His things. When you are invested in the Kingdom business, God opens doors of resources.
  2. Talents (1 Peter 4:10; 1 Corinthians 3:9)
We each have special abilities to serve each other & glorify God. When we run together, we run faster. What you don’t use, you lose. The richest place on earth is the graveyard because of wasted talents. God cares about our motive as we use our talents to serve each other.
  3. Treasures/Possessions/Financial blessings (Matthew 6:33)
Our hearts’ conditions can delay or accelerate our blessings. Blessings should not come between us and God, they should come behind. When we put God first, then we experience greatness. Invest in people because they are souls that have eternal value to God.

How are you going about your Father’s business? Be invested in things of the Kingdom so that when the Day comes, you are ready and not found wanting.
