Hearing The Voice of The Spirit

There is only life in the Spirit of God; if you are not walking in the Spirit, you are walking in the flesh – in a way that profits nothing (John 6:63). To walk in the Spirit, we must cultivate a hearing heart. Since we are alive and born again (in a relationship with the Holy Spirit), let us walk in the Spirit; not in our minds, emotions or will (Galatians 5:16,25). When you fail to walk in tune with the Holy Spirit, are you truly a son of God (Romans 4:18)?

Scriptural proof that God speaks >> Hebrews 3:7,15; Revelation 3:20-22; Isaiah 30:21; John 16:12-13

When you begin to hear the voice of God:

  • you are ushered into a dimension of supernatural rest in all areas of your life.
  • if you were in a wrong direction, you come back on track (Psalm 119:105).

What is the essence of the Holy Spirit living in us if we cannot hear and discern His voice?

Many ways that God speaks to us are through a still small voice, scriptures, prayers, dreams, visions, angels, prophets and our circumstances.

How to know if God is speaking:

  1. Test the spirit whether it is from God or not by going back to Scriptures (1 John 4:1; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  2. The peace of God comes on you (Colossians 3:15)
  3. Confirmation from Spirit-filled believers who discern the voice of God (2 Corinthians 13:1)

If you are not hearing the voice of God, you are EITHER (John 8:47):

  1. not of God OR
  2. you are yet to cultivate the heart of hearing God’s voice

Barriers to hearing the voice of the Spirit:

  1. Living in sin, especially unconfessed sin. Sin separates us from God (1 Samuel 3:1)
  2. Lack of intimacy. Prayer enforces intimacy/fellowship with God (James 4:8; Jeremiah 29:12-14)
  3. Being too busy. The way to prevail, the way to come out of many situations, is to hear the voice of God. If you are too busy for God, there is something wrong with you.

How to hear the voice of God:

  1. Expectation. It is the breeding ground for miracles (Matthew 11:15)
  2. Find a quiet and intimate place with God. Be silent and allow God to speak. No distraction (Psalm 46:10)
  3. Be alone with God. Desire more of God.
