Check The Temperature Of Your Love

The excitement and passion that you once had when you got saved, with time it can grow cold if you are not careful.

We are already in the last days. There is increasing degradation all around in society; in nature, in character, in morality, in education, etc.

(Matthew 24:3-13) Do not allow any reason to make your love grow cold. There is hope and that hope is through endurance. Love is a key and central theme in the Christian walk for our Father is Love Himself.

(Matthew 22:37-40) God expects us to love Him with our whole being and our neighbour at the same level that we love ourselves. Love is the heartbeat of God, therefore, we have to look at His expectation. We have to allow God to do a surgery on our hearts to see what really is within us.

How God expects us to love:

  1. By having a heart of forgiveness, extending grace and not being quick to judge.
  2. Be humble and esteem others as better than yourself
  3. Relying on God for decisions instead of relying on self-knowledge
  4. Being closely aligned with the will of God

The devil wants us to remove God’s will and God’s intimacy where we rely on Him for decisions, and make us rely on ourselves, and it becomes our will and not God’s will. When you don’t have a surrendered heart, you are not walking according to God’s will.

Romans 12:2 – Tells us how we are not to be conformed by the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewal of our minds. We need humility to walk in God’s way and God’s love (Romans 12:3).

(James 4:4; 1 John 2:16) The world has its lusts – the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. It’s important that we guard ourselves from the ways of the world. Everything that we don’t do according to the leading of the Spirit, is influenced by the flesh.

(1 John 3:14) Love is the evidence of our salvation. When we hate our brethren then we are dead – cold. People become spiritually dead when they are disconnected from the Source of life, when they are no longer walking in God’s direction. We need to be surrendered to God’s will. Ask God for this grace.

Instead of focusing on the people who are wronging us, we should instead pray for them and take heed of how God is working on our hearts. Focus first on your inside instead of looking at the outside. Have a heart of repentance, go back to Your first Love.

PRAYER: Lord forgive me. I have not walked in love and I have not had a surrendered heart. Lord renew Your love in me. Rekindle Your fire in me.

How do we become lukewarm Christians:

  1. Continual persistence in the fallen situation (Revelation 3:15-20). The remedy is repentance because the Lord is mercifully waiting for you (Proverbs 24:16).
  2. Checking your actions. It is easy to become comfortable while forgetting that actions are important for actions speak louder than words (Titus 1:16). Your actions are your fruits.

We are not exempt regardless of the title. We ALL are expected to check the temperature of our love.

When you are spiritually cold;

  1. You are spiritually dead. You are detached from God and you do not have any empathy.
  2. You cannot hear from God; you can’t sense God and all you have is the flesh.
  3. You are self-centred, or about those that are close to you.

God’s solutions:

  1. We should not love the word and its lusts for they are temporal.
  • Hold on to God with your all. Nothing should be too hard for you to let go.
  1. Enduring to the end so that you will be saved (2 Corinthians 4:8-10).
  • Do not let the cares of this world make you compromise and also remain in that compromise.

PRAYER: Lord, I don’t want this heart of stone. I did not know how far I had drifted. I want Your heart (Psalm 51). Lord strengthen me to live according to Your will and love. Oh Lord, uproot the spirit of offence and division in us. Holy Spirit, shed Your agape love in me and renew it. Today Lord, I’m recommitting to You. I surrender my will to You. Everything that was suppressing the growth of Your love in me, Lord, uproot it in Jesus name.

Let us allow God to build in us the capacity and for us to know that whatever we go through in life, we can’t go back and we can’t be destroyed.
